Overview
MRI of the femur may be helpful in the diagnosis of hairy cell leukemia. Diffuse hyperintense lesions on T2-weighted MRI image is suggestive of bone marrow infiltration by malignant leukemic cells.

MRI of the femur may be helpful in the diagnosis of hairy cell leukemia. Findings on MRI suggestive of hairy cell leukemia include:[1][2][3][4]
- Diffuse hyperintense lesions on T2-weighted MRI image
- Bone marrow infiltration by malignant leukemic cells
- Marrow-based lesion in the left femur neck, left proximal femur and both greater trochanters
- Posterior iliac crest bone marrow involvement can be seen
- Multiple hypointense metastatic bone lesions on T1-weighted image
