Overview
Special Scenario
Pregnancy
- LMWH is the preferred treatment. (Grade 1C)
- Warfarin is contraindicated.
- Embryopathy is at increased risk at 6 - 12 weeks.
- Continue anticoagulation for 6 weeks postpartum.
Cancer
- Recurrence rate of pulmonary embolism is 30% at one year.
- For treatment LMWH is recommended for initial 3 - 6 months.(Grade 1A)
- Later warfarin can be used after 3-6 months.
- Anticoagulation has to be advised until the cancer resolves.
