Overview

Only in advanced stages of wet beriberi, the echocardiographic features of heart failure may appear as reduced ejection fraction and fractional shortening, enlarged cardiac chambers, and valvular insufficiency.

Echocardiography/Ultrasound

In advanced stages of wet beriberi, heart failure may occur. In this case, the classic echocardiographic picture of heart failure includes[1]

  • Reduced ejection fraction.
  • Reduced fractional shortening
  • Large cardiac chamber sizes.
  • Valvular insufficiency.
  • Disturbed regional wall motion
