Hand foot mouth disease is a clinical diagnosis, there is no need for performing diagnostic tests.

Hand foot mouth disease is a clinical diagnosis, there is no need for performing diagnostic tests, however molecular testing can be done to identify the serotype of enterovirus.
Molecular Testing
- It is done based on the reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction(RT-PCR). The detection of the serotype is by amplification of the 5'- untranslated region of the viral RNA.[1]
