Overview
The main problem in patients with SIADH is excess of water retention and low sodium levels. Symptoms depend on the levels of sodium in the blood and the rate at which the level of sodium falls. Symptoms may be non-specific like generalisedfatigue, weakness,but if severe , may develop symptoms such as irritability,nausea, vomiting,muscle weakness and cramps,loss of appetite, confusion,personality changes,hallucinations,seizures,stupor andcoma.
History and Symptoms
Symptoms vary, depending on the degree of abnormality in the serum sodium concentration and the rate at which the concentration falls. Usual symptoms include:
- Nausea, vomiting
- Loss of appetite
- Fatigue and weakness
- Irritability
- Personality changes, such as combativeness.
- Seizures
- Confusion
- Hallucinations
- Stupor
- Coma[1]
Other disorders may have the above symptoms too. If the patient experiences the above symptoms, he/she should immediately consult their health care provider.
