Overview

Some other diagnostic tests like a biopsy can be utilized under certain circumstances to diagnose and differentiate prostatitis from other suspected pathologies in particular the carcinoma of the prostate. Thermograms are also used sometimes.[1]

Other Diagnostic Studies

Prostatic Biopsy

A biopsy of the prostate is done when a suspicion of prostate cancer is present specially in case of chronic prostatitis. The biopsy shows inflammatory changes only in case of prostatitis. The biopsy can be done under ultrasound or MRI guidance.[2][3]

Thermograms

Infrared thermogram can be used in the diagnosis of chronic prostatitis.[4]
