Overview
Thumb involves in almost 50% of hand function and its metacarpal base maintains the stability for grasping and pinching in different positions by providing a significant range of motion. A spectrum of the fractures of the thumb base have been described in orthopedic medicine: Juxta-articular metaphyseal fracture Bennett fracture Rolando fracture

Meanwhile having a well defined classification pattern is necessary and helpful in diagnosis and management of the fractures of the thumb.
