  • Chronic eosinophilia affects patients in their 30s or 40s. [5-7]
  • A history of atopy is found in 60 percent. [8]

Symptoms

  • IAEP is characterized by acute onset of dyspnea (100% of patients)
  • Fever that is usually moderate (100%
  • cough (80%–100%)
  • pleuritic thoracic pain (50%–70%)
  • myalgias (30%–50%
  • abdominal complaints (25%)46,50–52,54,64–72
  • Acute onset is an important criterion for the diagnosis of IAEP, with a delay between the first symptoms and hospital admission of less than 1 month and usually less than 7 days.50,51
  • Acute respiratory failure is frequent,53 often meeting criteria for acute respiratory distress syndrome,73 and admission to the intensive care unit and mechanical ventilation
