Diagnostic criteria
There is no established criteria for the diagnosis of pyonephrosis.
Pyonephrosis should be suspected if the patient develops fever, chills, flank pain pr back pain in addition to symptoms of urinary tract infection such as, dysuria, urgency, frequency.
Ultrasound can be used in the emergency setting and can rapidly establish or exclude the diagnosis of pyonephrosis.
