Overview
Diagnostic Study of Choice
- Cholescintigraphy is the gold standard for the diagnosis of chronic cholecystitis. Transabdominal ultrasonography is the initial study of choice for the diagnosis of chronic cholecystitis and gallstones.[1] [2][3]
- The following result of transabdominal ultrasonography is confirmatory of chronic cholecystitis:
- Thickened gallbladder (>4 mm)
- Gallstones
- The ultrasound should be performed when:
- The patient presents with right upper quadrant pain, abdominal guarding, fever, and a positive Murphy's sign.

Diagnostic Criteria
