Overview

There are no echocardiography findings associated with volvulus. Ultrasound may be helpful in the diagnosis of midgut volvulus. Findings on an echocardiography/ultrasound suggestive of volvulus include whirlpool sign.

Echocardiography/Ultrasound

  • There are no echocardiography associated with volvulus.[1]
  • Ultrasound may be helpful in the diagnosis of midgut volvulus as a complication of intestinal maltrotation in children. Findings on an ultrasound suggestive of midgut volvulus include:
    • Whirlpool sign
      • This is pattern denotes twisting of the superior mesenteric vein and mesentery around the superior mesenteric artery.
