Oceania University of Medicine is located on the island of Western Samoa in the south Pacific Ocean. The student body is comprised mainly of students from Australia and the United States, but many other countries are represented. The first two didactic years are completed remotely through online classes offered through Collaborate, an online conference calling system. Direct interaction between students and professors is capable and encouraged during classes. Each student is assigned a physician mentor with whom the student speaks at least once per week. Tests and quizzes are supervised by a remote proctor system that enables student monitoring throughout an exam period. The school presently offers an MBBS degree for Australian residents and an MD degree for American students, but as Australia converts to an MD degree system, the MBBS degree option is being phased out.
