Overview
Paranasal sinuses CT scan is helpful in diagnosis causes of epistaxis, when the cause is unknown, also when epistaxis is heavy and/or recurrent.
CT scan
CT scans can be helpful in diagnosis causes of epistaxis, when the cause is unknown or in cases of trauma:[1]
- Head trauma patients with epistaxis
- Suspected nasal bone fracture
- Heavy and/or recurrent epistaxis
- Tumor suspicion
- Inflammation of the paranasal sinuses
Risks and benefits must be considered because in most cases of severe epistaxis, CT scans do not aid the diagnosis.[1]
