- A level of EMS certification unique to New York State.
- Very similar in education and scope of practice to the National Standard EMT-Intermediate.
- May perform Intubation, Intravenous therapy, Cardiac monitoring, Electrical Therapies, Needle thoracotomy, Cricothyrotomy, Administration of medications.
- Generally has less diagnostic capability and thus less standing orders than paramedics but is trained in all the same procedures.
