There is no routinely diagnositic studies for atopic dermatitis, but in selected patients,to rule out other skin conditions, histology examination of a skin biopsy and other laboratory tests can be considered.[1]
- Serum IgE level
- Scraping - for tinea corporis
- Tzanck smear and swab for viral polymerase chain reaction - eczema herpeticum
- Swab, gram stain and antibiotic sensitivity - Staphylococcus
- Complete blood cell count
- thrombocytopenia (Wiskott-Aldrich syndrome)
- peripheral eosinophilia
- Potassium hydroxide (KOH)- dermatophytes
