Overview

Symptoms of rhabdomyosarcoma can vary greatly depending on the size, location and spread of the tumor. Symptoms of parameningeal rhabdomyosarcoma are headache and fascial assymmetry. Symptoms of rhabdomyosarcoma of orbit are proptosis, swollon eyelid, and vision problems. Symptoms of pelvic or abdominal rhabdomyosarcoma are Vomiting, constipation, and abdominal pain.

History and Symptoms

  • Symptoms of rhabdomyosarcoma can vary greatly depending on the size, location, patient's age and tumor metastases
  • General symptoms of rhabdomyosarcoma are:
    • Palpable mass
    • Pain may be present
    • Erythmatous skin
    • Fever may be present
    • Negative history of previous trauma
  • Most symptoms are related to prevalent sites such as:
    • Head and neck symptoms
    • Genitourinary tract symptoms
    • Extremities symptoms
  • Symptoms related to metastases lesions are:
    • Bone pain
    • Respiratory difficulties
    • Abnormal lab test ( anemia, thrombocytopenia, and neutropenia)
    • Disseminated rhabdomyoblasts in the bone marrow present with leukemia symptoms

Base of the skull (parameningeal), nasal sinuses or ear Headache, facial pain, facial asymmetry, nasal discharge, sinus congestion, earache, ear discharge
Eyes Proptosis, swollon eyelid, vision problems
Urinary bladder or prostate Hematuria, painful micturition
Vagina Vaginal discharge, vaginal bleeding
Abdomen or pelvis Vomiting, constipation, abdominal pain
Neck, back, chest, groin, or limbs Localized swelling, pain, redness
Biliary tract Jaundice, abdominal distension with pain, vomiting
