Subungal exostosis

Jump to navigation Jump to search

Subungual exostoses are bony projections which arise from the dorsal surface of the distal phalanx, most commonly of the hallux.

They tend to be painful due to the pressure applied to the nail bed and plate.

They are commonly osteochondromas which have identical radiographical and pathological features and never metastasize.

Surgical excision is common and is a very effective mode of treatment. MHE / MO / HME is Skeletal disorder characterized by benign cartilage-capped bone tumors.
