Overview

Paget-Schroetter disease is not diagnosed based on laboratory findings since except D-dimer, other laboratory values are commonly normal

Laboratory Findings

• Elevated D-dimer
  • Elevated D-dimer level has only 14-60% specificity in upper extremity vein thrombosis.
  • Since the Paget-Schroetter disease is rare, there is no established data supporting routine D-dimer test or a definitive diagnostic tool.
• To exclude other differential diagnosis consider laboratory workups from the list below:
  • CBC
  • Thrombophilia panel (protein C and S levels, antithrombin levels, prothrombin gene mutation analysis, factor V Leiden mutation testing)
  • Liver function tests
  • Creatine kinase
  • Erythrocyte sedimentation rate
  • C-reactive protein
  • Urinalysis
