Overview

Presently, primary prevention of cardiac tumors is not possible due to the lack of suitable techniques.

Primary Prevention

Definition: According to Wonca (World Organization of Family Doctors), Primary prevention involves interventions directed toward a vulnerable demographic or individual. Primary prevention is meant to keep a disease from ever arising. Therefore, its intended target consists of healthy people. [1]

  • There are no effective strategies for the primary prevention of cardiac tumors.
  • The primary prevention is helpful in to reduce the development of heart problems after initiating Anthracyclines and radiation exposure for the treatment of cardiac malignancies. Some strategies are:
    • The use of protons (instead of photons) offers the possibility of preserving the proper dose to the size of the tumor while decreasing the dose administered to neighboring normal tissue.[2]
    • Use of alternate anthracycline preparations, such as liposomal versions.
    • Lifestyle Changes[2]
