Overview
MRI may be helpful in the diagnosis and prediction of urinary incontinence. Findings on MRI suggestive of urinary incontinence include lower thicknesses of pelvic floor muscles. Shorter length of membranous urethra on MRI might be associated with higher risk of developing urinary incontinence after prostatectomy.
Key MRI Findings in Urinary incontinence
- MRI may be helpful in the diagnosis of urinary incontinence. Findings on MRI suggestive of urinary incontinence include lower thicknesses of pelvic floor muscles such as right and left puborectalis parts of levator ani muscle in patients with stress or mixed urinary incontinence. [1]
- Shorter membranous urethra length on MRI might be associated with higher risk of developing urinary incontinence after prostatectomy. [2] Thus, MRI is a helpful imaging modality to predict urinary incontinence after radical prostatectomy. [3]
