Overview

Tricuspid stenosis is a condition in which the tricuspid valves in the heart become stenosed leading to narrowing of the orifice of the tricuspid valve of the heart

What are the symptoms of Tricuspid stenosis?

Symptoms include:

  • Fatigue
  • Swelling over different parts of the body
  • Abdominal discomfort due to swelling.
  • Patients may complain about prominent pulsations in the neck.

What causes Tricuspid stenosis?

It is commonly caused by rheumatic fever and can be accompanied by mitral stenosis. Other causes include carcinoid syndrome, endocarditis, endomyocardial fibrosis, lupus erythematosus, right atrial myxoma and congenital tricuspid atresia.

Who is at highest risk?

Rheumatic fever is one the risks factor.

Diagnosis

Tricuspid stenosis should be suspected if you have symptoms

  • Fatigue
  • Swelling over different parts of the body
  • Abdominal discomfort due to swelling.
  • Patients may complain about prominent pulsations in the neck.
