Page History

Page history is the only way to follow changes to one specific page. A link to page history can be found between edit and move links, on the top of the page.

The history will have a variable length list of edits. The default is to show fifty edits per history page, although this can be increased to five hundred.

Rows generally look like this:

or

Breakdown:

  • (cur) - This link will show the difference between this edit and the current revision of page.
  • (last) - This link will show the difference between this edit and the edit before it.
  • * - Denotes radio button. There are two of them per edit, in two columns. Selecting one from each column and clicking on "Compare Selected Versions" button above the list will compare the selected edits and show their differences.
  • 18:00, 15 April - The time the edit was made. Beginning of new day is also marked on history page.
  • Mia Kristos - The user that did the editing
  • m - When a "m" appears, it means the user considered this a minor edit.
  • (Just a null description!) - This is the user's comment on their edit.
  • (->Section title) - If user edited only certain section of the page and did not change the default edit summary, this will mark the section. The small arrow will take directly to edited section. For example, this section would be "Recent Changes".

Note: The links above are example links, and will take you back to the Help:Editing page.

You can browse the history back to the creation of the page, or as is the case on most pages, back to last "history purge". Urban Dead wiki page histories are occasionally freezed to converse the database.

Recent changes

Recent Changes is a link that can be found in the 'navigation menu on the left hand side of any Wiki page. This will display a list, of varying lengths, depending on the options you select at the top, of the most recent changes to any page in the wiki. Rows generally look like this:

or

Breakdown:

  • (diff) - This link will show the difference between this edit and the edit before it.
  • (hist) - This link will take you to the history of the page.
  • Nm! - This is a few quick glance bits about the page. When a "N" appears, it means the page is new. When a "m" appears, it means the user considered this a minor edit. ! means edit is not patrolled. Patrolled means that some wiki user other than author has verified this particular edit. This can be done from diff screen (see above). This feature is practically unused in Urban Dead wiki.
  • Help:Editing - The page that was edited, and a link to it.
  • 12:00 - The time the edit was made. Note: All edits made under a particular date will appear under that date's header.
  • Mia Kristos - The user that did the editing
  • (Talk) - A link to that user's talk page.

User contributions

The contributions of any user can be seen when you visit that user's User Page. A link will appear in the lower left entitled "User Contributions". This link will take you to "Special:Contributions/" followed by the user who's page you are viewing. For example, clicking "User Contributions while viewing Mia Kristos's user page will take you to Mia_Kristos

You can also view your own contributions if you are logged in, by clicking "My Contributions" in the upper right corner or the page.

User Contributions is very similar to Recent Changes in that it will display a list, of varying lengths, depending on the options you select at the top, of the most recent changes to pages in the wiki. The major difference is that the list will be limited to the user who's contributions you are viewing. Rows generally look like this:

or

Breakdown:

  • 12:00, 1 January 2006 - The time and date the edit was made
  • (diff) - This link will show the difference between this edit and the edit before it.
  • (hist) - This link will take you to the history of the page.
  • m - When a "m" appears, it means the user considered this a minor edit.
  • Help:Editing - The page that was edited, and a link to it.
  • (Just a null description!) - This is the user's comment on their edit.
  • (->Section title) - If user edited only certain section of the page and did not change the default edit summary, this will mark the section. The small arrow will take directly to edited section. For example, this section would be "User contributions".
  • (top) - When this appears, it means the edit listed is still the most recent edit to that page.

Note: The links above are example links, and will take you back to the Help:Editing page.

Related Changes

The Related Changes link can be found in the "toolbox" box on the left side of a wiki page. Related Changes is almost exactly like Recent Changes, except it only lists changes to pages that are linked from the current page. For example, clicking on related changes for this page will give you the changes of all the Help pages listed in the menu at the bottom of this page.

Pages that cannot be edited, like those in the "Special" namespace, will not be listed.

Like Related Changes, Rows generally look like this:

or

Breakdown:

  • (diff) - This link will show the difference between this edit and the edit before it.
  • (hist) - This link will take you to the history of the page.
  • Nm! - This is a few quick glance bits about the page. When a "N" appears, it means the page is new.

Note: The links above are example links, and will take you back to the Help:Editing page.

Watchlist

At the top of each page that can be edited it a tab that says "Watch", or, if it is already on your watchlist, "Unwatch". Clicking on this tab will add or remove, respectively, the page from your watchlist. Another way to add or remove pages from your watchlist is by clicking "Show and Edit complete watchlist on the watchlist page.

When a page is on your watchlist, it will appear bold in almost every change list, like so:

Watched Page:

Not watched Page:

Note that, again, The watchlist page is almost exactly like Recent Changes, except it only lists changes to pages that you are watching.

  • (Just a null description!) - This is the user's comment on their edit.
  • (->Section title) - If user edited only certain section of the page and did not change the default edit summary, this will mark the section. The small arrow will take directly to edited section. For example, this section would be "Watchlist".

Note: The links above are example links, and will take you back to the Help:Editing page.

Finally, a nifty tool that allows you to be notified via e-mail any time a page on your watchlist is modified is in your User Preferences. In the box labled "E-mail" is an option allowing you to be notified when a page is changed. This applies ONLY to pages on your watchlist. You will receive one e-mail on a page change, and will receive no further e-mails until you visit that page.

Something to remember is that a wiki is a busy place with many pages being changes at any give time. Keep this in mind when deciding whether or not to be e-mailed when a page changes.
