Template:Nephotic Syndome

Editor-In-Chief: C. Michael Gibson, M.S., M.D. [1]; Associate Editor(s)-in-Chief:

The nephrotic syndrome is characterized by massive proteinturia. The proteinuria is usually greater than 3.5 mg/dl.

Pathophysiology

It may be due to an anomaly affecting glomerular filtration process or it may due to any other systemic disease affecting the filtration process.

There are three main mechanisms involved in the genesis of nephrotic syndrome. Glomerular filtration charge barrier may be disrupted either due to circulating immune complexes, autoantibodies formation, or due to cytokines production by T cells.
