Overview

CT scan of the pelvis may be helpful in identifying a mass in the pelvic cavity but may not hold much value in the diagnosis of struma ovarii. However, a CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of complications of struma ovarii.

CT scan

CT scan of the pelvis may be helpful in identifying a mass in the pelvic cavity but may not hold much value in the diagnosis of struma ovarii. However, a CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of complications of struma ovarii which include:

Chest CT scan of the patient demonstrating pleural effusion. Mostaghel et al; Struma ovarii associated with Pseudo-Meig's syndrome and high serum level of CA 125; a case report. J Ovarian Res. 2012;5:10.; Creative Commons Attribution License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0) [1]

Axial CT images with IV contrast demonstrate the presence of a heterogeneous mass in the left adnexa (arrows) with macro calcifications and enhancement of the solid components. Struma ovarii with papillary thyroid carcinoma. J Clin Imaging Sci. 2011;1:44, Creative Commons Attribution License. [2]

Pelvic CT scan of the patient showing the mass in the pelvic cavity. Mostaghel et al; Struma ovarii associated with Pseudo-Meig's syndrome and high serum level of CA 125; a case report. J Ovarian Res. 2012;5:10.; Creative Commons Attribution License (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/2.0) [1]
