Overview
The majority of patients with pleomorphic adenoma are asymptomatic. When pleomorphic adenoma arises from the parotid gland people present with dysphagia, dyspnea, difficulty in chewing, hoarseness, and dry mouth. If it occurs in lacrimal gland patients complain of proptosis, diplopia, fullness in the temporal upper eyelid and even visual impairment.
History and Symptoms
- The majority of patients with Pleomorphic adenoma are asymptomatic and the symptoms mainly depend upon the size, location and potential to undergo malignant transformation.
- When Pleomorphic adenoma arises from the parotid gland patients present with:[1]
- Dry mouth
- Dysphagia(difficulty in swallowing)
- Hoarsness
- Dyspnea
- Difficulty in chewing
- When Pleomorphic adenoma arises from the lacrimal glands patients presents with:[2]
