Overview

• The overview section should include the disease name in the first sentence.
• The goal is to summarize the page in several sentences, and the section can be the same as the causes segment on the overview page.
• Confirm that the overview statement is in a text format and does not contain bullet points.
• Confirm that periods, commas and spaces are appropriately placed.
• Confirm that no text is bolded or italicized randomly in between the text.
• Make sure to check for spelling and grammatical errors thoroughly.
• Confirm that there are no floating periods and comas.
• Confirm that periods and comas are present before the start of references instead of at the end to avoid floating periods and comas.
• Confirm that all the internal links work and there are no black links in between texts.
• Confirm that no links are created to same page.

Template

• First Sentence:

[Disease name] is caused by an infection with [pathogen].

OR

[Pathogen name] infection is caused by [pathogen].

OR

[Disease name] may be caused by either [cause1], [cause2], or [cause3].

• Examples:

Example 1: Legionellosis is caused by an infection with Legionella spp.

Example 2: Clostridium difficile infection is caused by Clostridium difficile.

Example 3: Orbital cellulitis may be caused by either Staphylococcus spp., Streptococcus spp., Moraxella spp. or anaerobes.

• Additional Sentences:

Additional Sentence 1: [Pathogen] belongs to the [pathogen family] family.

Additional Sentence 2: [Pathogen] is a [feature1], [feature2], [feature3], gram-[positive/negative] [shape].

• Examples:

Example 1: Influenza belongs to the Orthomyxoviridae family.

Example 2: C. difficile is a spore-forming, toxin-producing, obligate anaerobic, gram-positive bacillus.

Example 3: Salmonella spp. is a motile, lactose-fermenting, facultative intracellular gram-negative rod.

Example 4: Influenza is an enveloped, pleomorphic, segmented virus with a negative-sense, single-stranded RNA genome.
