Overview
Junctional tachycardia is a form of supraventricular tachycardia characterized by electrical impulse generation from the AV node.[1]
Pathophysiology
It is a tachycardia associated with the generation of impulses in a focus in the region of the atrioventricular node.
Causes
- Acute MI
- Conduction system disease
- Digitalis toxicity.[2]
- Heart surgery
- Ischemic heart disease
- Isoproterenol infusion
- NSTEMI
- STEMI
Differentiation of Junctional Tachycardia from other Tachycardias
- Sinus tachycardia:
- Atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia: It can appear similar to atrioventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia.[3]
One form is junctional ectopic tachycardia.
