Overview
Head and neck CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of hypopharyngeal cancer. Findings on CT scan suggestive of hypopharyngeal cancer include solid soft tissue nodule, region of superficial thickening with increased enhancement, and obliteration of fat planes.
CT Scan
Head and neck CT scan may be helpful in the diagnosis of hypopharyngeal cancer. Findings on CT scan suggestive of hypopharyngeal cancer include:
- Solid soft tissue nodule
- Region of superficial thickening with increased enhancement
- Obliteration of fat planes.
Following irradiation CT can be challenging, as irradiated mucosa often becomes edematous, and soft tissue fibrosis may develop, obliterating or distorting normal fat planes and potentially mimicking tumor involvement.
