Introduction to the Surgery Page

  • The page name should be "(Disease name) surgery", with only the first letter of the title capitalized.
  • Goal: To provide a comprehensive description of the main surgical therapy used in the treatment of the disease you are describing.
  • As with all microchapter pages linking to the main page, at the top of the edit box put {{CMG}}, your name template, and the microchapter navigation template you created at the beginning.
  • Remember to create links within Wikidoc by placing [[square brackets]] around key words which you want to link to other pages. Make sure you makes your links as specific as possible. For example if a sentence contained the phrase anterior spinal artery syndrome, the link should be to anterior spinal artery syndrome not anterior or artery or syndrome.   • Remember to follow the same format and capitalization of letters as outlined in the template below.
  • You should include the name of the disease in the first sentence of every subsection.

Overview

  • The overview section should include the disease name in the first sentence.
  • The goal is to summarize the main surgical therapies used in the treating the disease in few sentences.

Template

  • First Sentences:
Surgical intervention is not recommended for the management of [disease name].
OR
Surgery is not the first-line treatment option for patients with [disease name]. [Name of intervention] is usually reserved for patients with either [indication 1], [indication 2], and [indication 3].
OR
Urgent/rapid/elective [Name of intervention] is recommended for all patients who develop [disease name].
OR
Surgery is the mainstay of treatment for [disease or malignancy].
  • Examples:
Example 1: Surgical intervention is not recommended for the management of metastatic small cell lung carcinoma.
Example 2: Surgery is not the first-line treatment option for patients with Crohn’s disease. Colectomy is usually reserved for patients who cannot tolerate pharmacologic therapy and for patients who have recurrent flare-ups despite optimal pharmacologic therapy.
Example 3: Urgent radical peritoneal debridement is recommended for all patients who develop peritonitis.
Example 4: Herniorrhaphy may be performed as an ambulatory procedure and is recommended for all patients who develop hernia.
Example 5: Surgery is the mainstay of treatment for acinic cell carcinoma.

  • Here you can outline the indications for sugery.
  • A template sentence is: "Indications for surgery for (disease name) include: ___"

Contraindications

  • Here you can outline the contraindications for surgery.
  • A template sentence is: "Contraindications for surgery for (disease name) include: ___"

  • References should be cited for the material that you have put on your page. Type in {{reflist|2}}.This will generate your references in small font, in two columns, with links to the original article and abstract.
