  • Retropharyngeal bulge, stridor, drooling, nuchal rigidity, torticollis and cervical adenopathy


  • Elevated WBC count
  • Elevated CRP


  • Widening of the retropharyngeal soft tissue on X-ray
  • Gas-fluid level on X-ray
  • Hypodense lesion surrounded by a peripheral ring of enhancementoft-tissue on CT
  • Swelling and mass effect on CT


  • Polymicrobal infection
