Approximately 80% of Lassa fever cases present with mild fever.[1] In the remaining 20% of infected individuals, the body temperature may rise to 41°C with daily fluctuations of 2 to 3°C as the illness progresses.[2] The body temperature is often higher in the evening than in the morning.[3] The duration and severity of fever is very variable. The average duration is 16 days but extremes of 6 to 30 days have been reported.[4] Constant fever for 10 days or more suggests a greater inoculum level and is associated with weakness, muscle pains, abortion, and mental disorder.[5]
