Overview
There is no recommended screening guideline for Hepatitis A infection. However, the detection of hepatitis A virus (HAV) antibodies in the blood is used to screen for hepatitis A. Anti-HAV IgG remains elevated after acute disease.[1]
Screening
A positive anti-HAV IgG result demonstrates that the person is immune to hepatitis A due to: [1]
- Previous HAV infection, or
- Hepatitis A vaccination
A negative test demonstrates that the person:[1]
- Has never been infected with HAV
- Has never been vaccinated against HAV
- Is vulnerable to the HAV infection
