Overview
Liposarcoma are the second most common type of soft tissue sarcoma in adults. The annual incidence is 2.5 cases per 100,000 population. Men are more affected than women and it is mostly seen in elderly and has got poor prognosis.
Incidence
Annually 0.25 cases occur per 100,000 population.
Age and location
Most frequent in middle-aged and older adults (age 40 and above), liposarcomas are the second most common of all soft-tissue sarcomas. Tumors of adult life have a median age of 55-60 years. They can occur any where in the body but most predominent in the lower extremity and 2/3rd of them occur deep within the fascia.
Sex
Men are slightly more affected than women.
Ethinicity
It affects people of all ethnic group but slightly more in the people from black ethnic background.
