Complications

Rarely, a heart infection results that can lead to severe symptoms or even death if untreated. Other complications can include:

  • Bone infection (osteomyelitis)
  • Brain infection (encephalitis)
  • Liver infection (chronic hepatitis)
  • Lung infection (pneumonia)
