Early life

Diego Luy was born in Southern Arizona. His parents, who were Mexican citizens, raised him and his 3 siblings in Sonora, Mexico prior to immigrating to the United States. Throughout their childhood, Diego and his siblings were raised on the Mexican-American border, speaking English at school and Spanish at home.

Education

As a first-generation Mexican-American, Luy attended Douglas High School, where he became increasingly interested in science and medicine. In addition to his regular course load, Diego also completed Cochise College courses to obtain credentials as a certified nursing assistant, which further expanded his interest in medicine. Diego graduated in 2013 with valedictorian status and later attended Johns Hopkins University.

In 2017, he graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Neuroscience; he was also distinguished with Dean’s list recognition in addition to departmental and general honors. Here, he was a member of Nu Rho Psi (Neuroscience Honor Society) and was President of Lambda Epsilon Mu (Latinx Pre-medical Honor Society).

After completing a year as a Medical Scribe/Spanish Translator, he studied at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine and earned his M.D. degree in 2022. Luy has since begun his neurosurgical training as a resident physician within the Department of Neurological Surgery of Loyola University Medical Center.
