This image depicts the penis of a male with its foreskin retracted, revealing a suppurative lesion involving the glans and prepuce. The cause of this lesion had been diagnosed as a case of penile Donovanosis, also known as granuloma inguinale, a disease caused by the Gram-negative bacterium, Klebsiella granulomatis, formerly known as Calymmatobacterium granulomatis, and even earlier Donovania granulomatis.
