Gerard C. Whitworth, RN, CCP, CHt. jery.whitworth@ease-your-pain.com

Mr. Whitworth co-founded the Complementary Care Center within Columbia University’s Department of Surgery, and served as its director. In close collaboration with Mehmet Oz, MD (Dr. Oz Show) and Eric Rose, MD - a leading cardiothoracic surgeon and chairman of the Department of Surgery, respectively - Jery and his staff provided non-invasive complementary / alternative (CAM) therapies to cardiac surgery patients and their families.

Jery spent the next four years developing a multi-divisional Department of Complementary Medicine at Columbia-Presbyterian Medical Center, with intent of expanding CAM clinical services to medical and surgical patients across a variety of disease populations. In 1998, the center was granted department status in New York Presbyterian Hospital, New York City - the University Hospital of Columbia and Cornell, and Jery served as its executive director and co-founder. With experienced-based outcomes reflecting an 82% reduction in stress, 73% reduction in pain, and 96% satisfaction rate, the department gained international recognition as a leading program of its kind in the field of complementary medicine. In addition, Jery initiated the 9,000 sq. ft. Integrative Medicine aftercare/wellness facility at Madison Avenue in New York City, for what is now transmorphed into the Hospital for Special Surgery Integrative Care Center. Mr. Whitworth, and his work, has been featured in over 30 national media productions on Complementary/Alternative Medicine, including CNN, ABC, NBC, CBS, Discovery Channel, PBS, the New York Times and Life Magazine.

Jery consulted on program development for the first and second annual Integrative Medicine Industry Leadership Summit in 2000 and 2001. He developed Summit 2001’s integrative clinic’s breakout session and co-facilitated its participating members - 28 academic, health system, hospital, not-for-profit and for-profit CAM clinics – to join in a business un-usual collaborative venture; sharing of CAM proprietary and non-proprietary business and clinical operations resources to assist in each other’s clinical and financial success. This unparalleled collaborative process continues today through a foundation Mr. Whitworth co-founded - the Collaboration for Healthcare Renewal Foundation.

Concurrent with the founding of the Complementary Care Center, Department of Complementary Medicine and Madison Avenue Integrative Care facility, Jery worked as a Certified Clinical Perfusionist since 1994. He is also a Registered Nurse; having practiced and supervised community based acute care since 1976.

For over 40 years Jery has studied, practiced and obtained certification in a variety of Integrative Medicine disciplines; medical hypnosis, interactive therapeutic imagery, Silva Method, Transcendental Meditation, yoga, Reiki Master Teacher, Therapeutic Touch and energy based modalities. Mr. Whitworth has a private practice in New York City - Integrative HealthCare Resources, LLC and consults with clinics, hospitals and medical institutions on developing their integrative medicine departments and surgical programs.
