Overview

In early stages endometrial cancer must be differentiated from diseases that cause abnormal uterine bleeding and endometrial thickening on ultrasound, such as endometrial hyperplasia, endometrial polyp and submucosal uterine leiomyoma. In advanced stages endometrial cancer must be differentiated from uterine sarcoma and uterine lymphoma.

Differentiating Endometrial Cancer From Other Diseases

• Ovarian germ cell tumor must be differentiated from other neoplastic ovarian mass

such as:

• Surface epithelial stromal ovarian tumors
• Sex cord stromal ovarian tumor
• Ovarian germ cell tumor (subtypes)

• Ovarian germ cell tumor must be differentiated from other non neoplastic ovarian mass

such as:

• Endometrioma
• Functional ovarian cyst
• Theca lutein cyst
• Polycystic ovary syndrome

• Ovarian germ cell tumor must be differentiated from adnexal mass such as:

• Paratubal or paraovarian cysts
• Hydrosalpinx
• Pedunculated uterine fibroids
