Overview
Lithium carbonate is a mood Stabilizer that is FDA approved for the {{{indicationType}}} of bipolar disorder, maintenance therapy and manic episode. Common adverse reactions include acne, hypothyroidism, weight increased, gastritis, nausea, xerostomia, leukocytosis, fine tremor, hyperreflexia, deep tendon, nephrotoxicity, polyuria, increased thirst.
Adult Indications and Dosage
FDA-Labeled Indications and Dosage (Adult)
- Bipolar disorder, maintenance therapy
- Maintenance 900 to 1200 mg/day PO in 2 to 3 divided doses
- Bipolar disorder, manic episode
- 1800 mg/day PO in 2 to 3 divided doses

- Bipolar disorder, maintenance therapy
- 12 yr and older, extended-release tablets, maintenance, 900 to 1200 mg/day ORALLY in 2 to 3 divided doses; desired serum lithium levels ranging between 0.6 to 1.2 mEq/L
- Bipolar disorder, maintenance therapy
- Immediate-release tablet and capsule formulations, maintenance, 300 mg PO 3 to 4 times daily
Bipolar disorder, manic episode
- 12 yr and older, extended-release tablets, acute mania, 1800 mg/day PO in 2 to 3 divided doses
