Epidemiology and demographics
Prevalence
- The prevalence of hamartomas at autopsy has been reported at nearly 0.25%.[3]
- Pulmonary hamartomas are estimated to be 8% of all lung neoplasms. Most lesions are diagnosed incidentally.[1][2]
Age
- Patients usually present in the 4th and 5th decades of life. Hamartomas are very uncommon in children.
Gender
- There is a recognised male predilection ( M:F being ~2-3:1).
