Overview
Effective measures to prevent colon cancer in patients with familial adenomatous polyposis include colectomy or partial colectomy.
Primary prevention
Prophylactic colectomy is generally indicated before the age of 25 to prevent colon cancer or if any of the following is present:
- More than a hundred polyps
- Severely dysplastic polyps
- Multiple polyps larger than 1 cm
