Dermoid cysts of the floor of the mouth

Dermoid cysts of the floor of the mouth must be differentiated from the following:[1]<

  • Metastatic neoplasms to the oral cavity
  • Pilomatrixoma
  • Steatocystoma multiplex
  • Trichilemmal cyst (pilar cyst)
  • Pilonidal cyst
  • Encephalocele (when dermoid cysts appear on the medial aspect of the orbit)
  • Infectious process
  • Ranula
  • Lymphatic malformation
  • Heterotopic gastrointestinal cyst
  • Duplication foregut cyst
