The structure and bonding of the sulfate ion

A sulfotransferase is a transferase enzyme which acts upon a sulfate group.[1] These enzymes often act to transfer a sulfate group from the coenzyme 3'-Phosphoadenosine-5'-phosphosulfate (PAPS) to a second substrate such as a protein or lipid.[2]

They are classified under EC number 2.8.2.

An example is SULT2A1.
