(WikiDoc) - In-hospital angiography on patients with acute heart failure syndromes (AHFS) and coronary artery disease (CAD) appears to result in signficantly lower rates of death or rehospitalization at 60-90 days following discharge, according to a corrected proof published online in the American Heart Journal. Investigators looked at patients enrolled in the 48,612-person OPTIMIZE-HF trial and found in-hospital angiography resulted in an increased use of aspirin, statins, beta-blockers, and ACE inhibitors, improving myocardial revascularization. But the researchers note the nonrandomized nature of the retrospective study means other variables could have affected the outcome, including possible selection biases affecting which patients received drug therapies.
