(WikiDoc) - How much money a country's citizens make is the greatest predictor of that country's stroke-related deaths - greater even than cardiovascular risk factors - according to a study in The Lancet Neurology. Low-to-middle income countries fare the worse when all other factors are taken into consideration. The study found that cardiovascular risk factors taken at a national level are actually a poor predictor of that country's stroke incidence.
Similarly, a seperate review published in the same journal found incidence of stroke in low-to-middle income countries increased by more than 100 percent over the past four decades. Over the same period of time, high-income countries saw a 42 percent decrease in their incidence of stroke.
