Overview

An electrocardiogram (ECG) may be helpful in the diagnosis of mesenteric ischemia in case of atrial fibrillation as the underlying cause. Findings on an ECG suggestive of mesenteric ischemia include irregular heart rate, absent P wave and irregular R-R interval.

Electrocardiogram

An ECG may be helpful in the diagnosis of mesenteric ischemia. Findings on an ECG suggestive of mesenteric ischemia include:

  • Irregular heart rate
  • Absent P wave
  • Irregular R-R interval.

These findings on ECG are consistent with the diagnosis of atrial fibrillation which is a major risk factor for mesenteric ischemia.
