Malaria is diagnosed by complementing the clinical findings of the patient with malaria-specific diagnostic studies. PCR is being used to help with malaria elimination.[1]

PCR

Malaria is diagnosed by complementing the clinical findings of the patient with malaria-specific diagnostic studies. PCR has recently been utilized in studies related to malaria.[1]

  • ddPCR is a technology based on water oil emulsion.
  • It has high sensitivity in detecting even minute number of Plasmodium species found in human body.
  • It can detect all human Plasmodium types.
  • It can be used for malaria elimination by the detection of asymptomatic parasites

MALDI TOF MS

Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption Ionization Time-Of-Flight Mass Spectrometry is useful in the detection of Anopheles species and the status and type of Plasmodium type they are infected with.[2]
